How to Change Your cPanel Password
Changing your cPanel password regularly is one of the simplest ways to improve the security of your hosting account. A strong password helps protect your website, email accounts, databases, and files from unauthorized access.
Change Your Password from Within cPanel
Step 1: Log in to cPanel
Access your cPanel account using your hosting control panel URL and enter your username and password.
Step 2: Open the Password & Security Section
Once logged in, click on Password & Security under the Preferences section.
Step 3: Enter Your Current Password
In the Old Password field, enter your existing cPanel password.
Step 4: Create a New Password
Enter your new password in the New Password field and confirm it in the New Password (Again) field.
For best security, your password should:
- Be at least 12 characters long
- Include uppercase and lowercase letters
- Contain numbers and special characters
- Avoid dictionary words, names, or predictable patterns
You can also use the Password Generator button to create a strong, random password.
Step 5: Save the Changes

If the password meets the required strength level, the change will be applied immediately.
Forgot Your cPanel Password?
If you cannot log in to cPanel because you’ve forgotten your password, you may be able to reset it using the password reset option provided by your hosting provider.
Typically, this requires:
- Access to the email address associated with your hosting account.
- Verification of your account ownership.
- Following the password reset instructions sent via email.
If password reset is not available, contact your hosting provider’s support team for assistance.
Important Notes
- Changing your cPanel password also changes the password used to access Webmail and FTP accounts that use the main cPanel credentials.
- Existing email account passwords created separately within cPanel will remain unchanged.
- Update any saved passwords in FTP clients, website management tools, or mobile applications after changing your password.
- Avoid sharing your cPanel password with anyone.
Security Best Practices
- Change your password periodically.
- Use a unique password that is not used on other websites.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) if available.
- Store passwords securely using a password manager.
