New policy for .IN & .BHARAT domains

01-04-2026

NETTIGRITTY — IMPORTANT NOTICE

Your .IN domain — what you need to know

New policy for .IN & .BHARAT domains — effective immediately

India’s domain authority NIXI has introduced new rules for .IN, third-level .IN, and .BHARAT domains. The goal is to ensure only real Indian individuals and businesses own these domains. You don’t need to do anything right now — but during your next registration, renewal, transfer, or update, new steps will apply.

Indian registrants only

Only individuals or entities with India as the registrant country can register or transfer .IN domains.

No temporary emails

Disposable or temporary email addresses are not accepted.

VPN must be off

Registrations using VPNs or masked IPs will fail.

eKYC verification

Email and identity verification are mandatory within 15 days.

Turn off your VPN

Switch off your VPN before visiting domains.nettigritty.com. If the VPN is on, registration will fail.

Use your real email address

Use Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or your company email. Temporary email addresses will not be accepted.

Verify your identity

Complete email + eKYC verification within 15 days. Otherwise, your domain will be put on hold.

  1. Turn off your VPN before any domain activity.
  2. Use a permanent email address.
  3. Complete eKYC and email verification within 15 days.
  4. Ensure your registrant country is set to India.
What happens if you miss the 15-day window?

Your domain will be suspended — your website and email may stop working until verification is completed.

Does this affect existing domains?

No — existing domains continue to work normally. These rules apply only during future updates or registrations.
