A Beginner’s Guide to Installing WordPress in cPanel: Step-by-Step Tutorial
Are you ready to embark on your journey into the world of WordPress? Congratulations! WordPress powers over 40% of all websites on the internet, and for good reason—it’s flexible, user-friendly, and endlessly customizable. But before you can start building your dream website, you need to install WordPress on your hosting server. Luckily, if you’re using cPanel, the process is straightforward and can be done in just a few simple steps. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of installing WordPress in cPanel, from start to finish.
Step 1: Log in to Your cPanel Account
First things first, log in to your cPanel account. You should have received your cPanel login credentials from your hosting provider when you signed up for hosting. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be greeted by the cPanel dashboard, which is where you’ll manage all aspects of your hosting account.
Step 2: Locate the Softaculous Apps Installer
cPanel makes installing popular web applications like WordPress a breeze with Softaculous Apps Installer. Look for the Softaculous Apps Installer icon, usually located in the “Software” or “Web Applications” section of your cPanel dashboard. Click on the Softaculous Apps Installer icon to proceed.
Step 3: Find and Select WordPress
In the Softaculous Apps Installer interface, you’ll see a list of available applications. Since we’re installing WordPress, you can either find it by scrolling down or use the search bar to quickly locate it. Once you’ve found WordPress, click on it to begin the installation process.
Step 4: Start the Installation Process
After selecting WordPress, you’ll be taken to the WordPress installation page within Softaculous. Here, you’ll find information about WordPress, including its features and a brief description. To start the installation, click on the “Install Now” button.
Step 5: Configure Your WordPress Installation
Now it’s time to configure your WordPress installation. You’ll need to fill out some basic information, such as:
- Choose Protocol: Select the appropriate protocol for your website (http://, https://, or https://www.).
- Choose Domain: Choose the domain name where you want to install WordPress from the dropdown menu.
- In Directory: Leave this field blank if you want WordPress to be installed in the root directory of your domain (e.g., example.com). If you want to install WordPress in a subdirectory (e.g., example.com/blog), enter the directory name here.
- Site Name: Enter the name of your website.
- Site Description: Enter a brief description of your website.
- Admin Username: Choose a username for your WordPress admin account.
- Admin Password: Choose a strong password for your WordPress admin account. Make sure to use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters for better security.
- Admin Email: Enter your email address.
- Select Language: Choose the language for your WordPress installation.
Step 6: Complete the Installation
Once you’ve filled out all the required information, double-check everything to ensure it’s correct. Then, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Install” button to proceed with the installation. Softaculous will now begin installing WordPress on your server.
Step 7: Finish and Access Your WordPress Site
After a few moments, Softaculous will notify you that the installation is complete. You’ll see a success message along with a link to your newly installed WordPress site and another link to your WordPress admin dashboard. Click on the link to your WordPress admin dashboard, and log in using the username and password you chose earlier.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully installed WordPress on your server using cPanel. Now you can start customizing your website, installing themes and plugins, and creating content to bring your vision to life. Welcome to the wonderful world of WordPress!
